How?

Mar 15, 2005 5:29 PM by Discussion: DesktopX
How do you unload a theme without shutting down DX? Seems like there should be a simple "click here" button to just do that, without shutting down DX entirely. Because, if you shut down DX entirely, then load it back up, it automatically loads your last theme, and you're back where you started. I spoze I can RTFM, but I was hoping for a quick answer here.

TIA

I'm waiting with bated breath.........

Mar 12, 2005 2:27 PM by Discussion: OS Customization
ObjectBar is one of my favorite customizations. It's clean, fast, and hugely useful. But, since I got my new computer, I haven't reinstalled it. I'm waiting for the much-anticipated release of the upgrade. Any ideas when this is going to happen? Should I install the beta? Has it progressed from the confusing mess when it was originally updated to the new beta version. Inquiring minds............
TIA

ever since SD and forums were updated

Feb 12, 2005 4:15 PM by Discussion: Stardock Support General
I think this is a SD issue, rather than JU, but it manifests with JU. The new user interface looks good. The pages load faster. All is good in joeuser land, except that I cannot comment on any of the forums or threads or anything. So, hopefully, this will be a simple question.....

I'd like to uninstall and reinstall SDCentral, as I think that's where the issue lies, and I do get a scripting error. So, if someone could be so kind as to post a link to the newest version of SDCentral for me to download, I'd be eternally grateful. TIA

I'm not a complete beginner, but this is kind of a beginner's question. I just can't figure it out.

How/where do you unzip the screensaver zips now available from WC? I've tried unzipping to c:/windows, but that doesn't work. The image shows up in the settings dialog selection box, but if I select it, my computer just glitches (for lack of a better word), when I click to preview. Any ideas?

TIA

Is there such a thing?

Dec 31, 2004 1:38 PM by Discussion: DesktopX
I just got a gmail account last night, and I was wondering if there is a DX object or widget that can notify you when you get mail in an online email account. I was hunting through some of the widgets and objects, and I'm not seeing one, or I'm just missing this. Is this possible? It seems to me that if you can download news, you can possibly have a notifier download some incoming notification. Or, is this just too insecure and risky?

TIA for an answer

I need to appeal to any one of you computer geek guru types. I have a friend with a trojan called "downloader.small.12.bj". She's run AVG, which highlights the program, but won't get rid of it. The only thing I found from a google search was a recommendation to delete the file where it is contained. But, that file is not deletable. Can anyone help with this? Any ideas? TIA

Bushisms put to verse

In case you've never seen this fabulous poem, Dubya's drivelling compiled by a reporter (who's name eludes me):

MAKE THE PIE HIGHER
by George W. Bush

I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It's a world of madmen and uncertainty
and potential mental losses.

Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet become more few?
How many hands have I shaked?

They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.
I know that the human being and the fish can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope, where our wings take dream.

Put food on your family!
Knock down the tollbooth!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!

Our president is an embarassment!

I'm hoping this image gets posted correctly here. If it does.......

I just learned about the magic pink method of creating transparency (thank you, Latin, for your post on the wstaylor site). But, is there an easy way to eliminate the pink edging? Is it that my original image wasn't of a high enough resolution? Input would be helpful.

BTW, this sysmetrix theme, a minimal meter object, is a work in progress, resulting from my new-found knowledge. Any thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated, also. TIA

I am trying to import my Favorites folder from IE/Avant Browser to Firefox, but I cannot figure out which file it is. I've searched all over with Windows Explorer, but that program is eluding me. I feel so stupid. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be eternally grateful. TIA

I have a major problem. I will be working with my computer, then all of a sudden, the thing just freezes up. Completely. It's not my mouse battery, which of course is the first thing I checked. My computer becomes so frozen, as in everything, that the only way to get it functional is to unplug it. I've tried the reset button, but that just reboots my computer into a frozen state.

A friend of mine suggested that maybe it's a virus or trojan. How do I figure which one? I run Norton, and my definitions are always up to date. I run ad-aware almost every day. My Norton is about to expire, and I'm thinking of trying one of the free virus packages, like AVG. It's supposed to be great, and $50 for Norton is absurd, IMHO. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear some of you computer guru experiences. TIA
